ALL SAINTS

November 1, 2011*

Invitation:

By baptism, we have been claimed by God as beloved sons and daughters.

Let us approach our Father in heaven with these petitions.

(Suggested response for those using a seasonal response for November: “Eternal Love, hear our prayer” or “Eternal Love, hear us.”)

Intentions:

For all Christians:

that we give evidence that we are God’s children now

in our love for one another as brother and sister

and in our care for everyone because they are God’s, we pray:

For all the baptized:

that we be courageous in showing the world the wisdom of the beatitudes

by bearing persecution for the sake of a higher good, showing mercy,

and living meekly, peacefully, and joyfully,  we pray:

For our global family:

that we survive this time of distress, not by desiring what is vain,

but by working for what is just, we pray:

For the human family:

that we understand the power and choice we wield

to either damage the land and the sea, or to protect and cherish them, we pray:

For the people of Israel,

that faithfulness to biblical justice mark them as God’s chosen,

especially in efforts to end their conflict with the Palestinian people, we pray:

For those who are hungry and thirsty because of drought and war in the Horn of Africa,

and for North Koreans who are hungry because of crop failure and ill-governance:

that they and their lands be soon satisfied, we pray:

For those who lead this divided nation

and for those running for office:

that there be peacemakers among them

whose influence helps the people’s best interests be served, we pray:

For the oppressed and poor

and all who are raising their voices to demand economic justice:

that the thirst they share be satisfied, we pray:

For our young people preparing for First Reconciliation/Penance, First Communion, and Confirmation:

that they see models of saintly living in the good people of this parish/congregation, we pray:

For each of us here:

that our hearts recognize the holy ones in our midst

who show us how to live our ordinary lives faithfully and lovingly, we pray:

For those who are seriously ill or injured,

including __________:

that they be shown mercy in their suffering, we pray:

For the people who died recently,

including _________________:

that they stand with the multitude that now sees God as God is, we pray:

(Insert any concluding intentions here.)

Concluding Prayer:

Blessed and Only God,

what love you have bestowed on us in calling us your children!

Hear our prayers, and send forth the love we know you cannot withhold

through Jesus, in whom you show us mercy, victory, and everlasting life,

now and forever.

AMEN.
