Invitation: God’s friendship is with us as we set our feet on Advent’s path. Let us open our hearts to Him now in prayer and petition.
(Suggested seasonal response: “God our Savior, hear our prayer.”)
Intentions: That God’s love be made visible through the ministry of our priests, especially to those who are suffering, let us pray:
That all of us increase and abound in faith and love as we journey with Christ through a new liturgical year together with our catechumens and our candidates for full communion [whom we welcome this weekend] [whom we recently welcomed], let us pray:
That believers of every faith tradition be strengthened in conduct pleasing to God, encouraging the entire global community in justice and peace, let us pray:
That world and national leaders be led to decisions that are right and just, let us pray:
That nations be attentive to the signs in land, sea, and sky as they prepare to send their representatives to the United Nations Climate Conference next week, let us pray:
That leaders be raised up in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan who will build their nations with justice and secure them without a foreign military presence, let us pray:
That island and coastal regions devastated by tidal waves or storming seas[, including Indonesia and the Philippines,] be supported in rebuilding, and in caring for those who are hurting, let us pray:
That vigilance toward the safety and security of our families, neighborhoods, and nation be based in love, not fear, let us pray:
That love increase and abound in families so that it overflows in love for all people, let us pray:
That government and industry act with awareness of the interests of poor and native peoples, whose lives are being assaulted by environmental damage, let us pray:
That the welfare of children whose world has been shattered by personal tragedy, natural disaster, or national upheaval be of active concern to churches, communities, and nations, let us pray:
That burdens of anxiety from wartime deployments and economic distress be eased by communities who love and care for one another, let us pray:
That guests who traveled a distance to be with us this holiday return safely home, let us pray:
YOU MAY INSERT THE NAME IF YOUR COMMUNITY IS SPONSORING A PARTICULAR CHARITABLE ACTIVITY (SUCH AS A GIVING TREE) DURING ADVENT: That our individual charity and our gifts to/through (name the activity, event, etc.) bring blessing on the people they touch, let us pray:
That our love abound in every season and lead us to seek out the sick, the sorrowing, and the lonely, let us pray:
That those afflicted by illness or infirmity not feel isolated during this holy season, [including N., and all made seriously ill by the flu,] let us pray:
That the recently deceased stand blameless before the Son of Man, [including ___________ and workers who died in the mine explosion in China,] let us pray:
Concluding Prayer: God and Father, you have called us to a holiness expressed “in love for one another and for all.” Be attentive to our prayers, for we offer them in love, with the angels and saints, through the One Who was, Who is, and Who is to come, Christ our Lord.
AMEN.
